Sephiria Skills Guide: Weapon Specials, Effects, and Abilities

Understand Sephiria skills through weapon specials, activated Artifacts, combo effects, Miracles, and Talents, with practical tips for choosing abilities during a run.

Sephiria does not present every ability as a traditional hero skill menu. When players search for Sephiria skills, they may mean weapon special attacks, activated Artifacts, combo effects, Miracles, or permanent Talents. This guide separates those systems and explains where to look for the current effect text.

What Counts as a Skill in Sephiria?

Use the following map when looking for an ability:

Search termSephiria systemWhere to verify it
Weapon skill or specialA weapon's alternate attack, charge, guard, dash, or other special behaviorSephiria Weapons and Weapon Upgrades
Artifact abilityA passive or activated Artifact effectSephiria Artifacts
Combo effectA threshold effect created by matching Artifact tagsCombo Effects
MiracleA run choice that can change the direction of a buildSephiria Miracles
TalentA permanent progression choice outside the current runSephiria Talents

The official Steam description emphasizes weapons, Artifacts, Tablets, Talents, and inventory planning rather than a separate character skill tree. Treat the current in-game tooltip as the authority when an older guide uses the word “skill” for one of these systems.

Weapon Specials

Weapon specials are the most direct answer to a search for Sephiria weapon skills. They change how a weapon creates damage or safety, so the correct choice depends on the run rather than on one universal tier.

  • Sword and Shield: prioritize the guard and the special attack that uses the guarded stance when you need a reliable defensive answer.
  • Greatsword: charge and area coverage make spacing and timing more important than attack speed alone.
  • Dagger: short range and fast attacks reward close positioning, parry practice, and a clear escape route.
  • Crossbow: ranged pressure gives more room to learn enemy patterns, but the build still needs a plan for enemies that close distance.
  • Katana, Staff, and other current weapon variants: check the current upgrade tooltip before copying an older build because weapon branches and effect values are patch-sensitive.

See the Controls and Combat guide for input practice, then use the Weapon Ranking page to compare a special by playstyle instead of by damage text alone.

Activated Artifacts and Grimoires

Some Artifacts and Grimoires behave like active skills because they consume MP, use a cooldown, or require a cast. A high theoretical value is not enough if the run cannot sustain the activation cost.

Before taking an activated effect, check:

  1. Whether it needs MP, a cooldown window, or a cast time.
  2. Whether the effect is active immediately or requires a tag, level, position, or combo threshold.
  3. Whether the weapon can keep enemies in the range of the effect.
  4. Whether the inventory board still has space for the Tablet or Artifact relationship that powers it.

The Inventory Grid guide explains why an ability can look strong in isolation but fail after its placement condition is lost.

Combo Effects, Miracles, and Talents

Combo effects are conditional abilities, not a replacement for a weapon's core attack. Build toward a threshold only when the current reward pool can reach it and the effect improves the weapon you are actually using.

Miracles provide run-level choices and can help repair a build that missed an early item. Talents are permanent progression and should be evaluated separately from temporary run power. Do not copy a Talent priority into a run plan without checking which part of the system it changes.

A Safe Skill-Selection Order

Use this order when two ability choices compete:

  1. Take the option that makes the next room safer.
  2. Confirm that its damage type or condition matches the weapon.
  3. Protect the Artifact and Tablet space needed for the active effect.
  4. Add a combo threshold only when the run can reach it consistently.
  5. Recheck the tooltip after a patch before using exact values from an old guide.

Version Notes

Weapon effects, enemy interactions, Artifact values, and Talent rules have changed across updates. The official Steam news feed records these changes, including fixes to Artifact effects and enemy behavior. This page intentionally avoids claiming one exhaustive, permanent skill list while the game continues to receive updates.
