Sephiria Weapon Upgrades: Full Enhancement Tree Guide
Learn how Sephiria weapon upgrades work, including the two-stage enhancement system, all weapon types, upgrade effects, and how to obtain them.
Overview
Weapon upgrades in Sephiria let you transform base weapons into specialized tools that support different builds and playstyles. Every weapon can be reinforced up to two times. The second-stage upgrade builds on the first, so the effects of both stages stack.
There are six weapon types in total: standard sword and shield, steel greatsword, dagger, large crossbow, sword (do), and pole. Each type has its own upgrade tree with multiple branches. Some upgrades are designed for specific attribute builds—fire, ice, lightning, or physical—while others focus on mechanics like dash attacks, normal attacks, special attacks, or companion summons.
When you upgrade a weapon, the attack damage calculation can change. Most weapons deal physical damage by default, but certain upgrade paths convert your attacks to be based on a different attribute. For example, the magic wand upgrade changes your sword-and-shield attacks into magical projectiles, and the flame dagger converts your weapon to fire-based damage.
How Weapon Upgrades Work
Each weapon can be reinforced twice. The first upgrade gives you a base enhancement, and the second upgrade adds a more specialized effect. You cannot skip the first stage—the second-stage upgrade is an extension of the first.
Some weapons have dedicated artifacts that only appear when you are holding that weapon type. These artifacts are designed to synergize with specific upgrade paths, so your choice of weapon upgrade influences which artifacts you will encounter during a run.
Damage from weapon attacks is calculated using the attribute damage values shown in your stat window. If a normal attack combo has multiple motions, each motion can have a different damage coefficient. For example, the standard sword and shield attack cycle deals 100%–100%–170% of physical damage across its three hits.

How to Obtain Weapon Upgrades
Weapon upgrades are obtained during runs by visiting anvil rooms. The anvil is used to reinforce your weapon, and each weapon can be upgraded twice per run. The first upgrade is available early, and the second upgrade builds on the first.
According to player reports, some builds intentionally stop at the first upgrade. For example, a community guide for the Solar Flourish Staff build uses only the Tier 1 upgrade of the Flower Club (Hwagon) because the second-stage effect is not necessary for that build's Sun Sword combo strategy.
Some upgrades are added in specific patches and may not be available in earlier versions of the game. The large crossbow was added in patch 0.7.35, and the pole weapon type was added in patch 0.11.0.
Uses and Build Synergies
Sun Sword Builds
Several weapon upgrades interact with the Sun Sword mechanic. The Solis Kineris upgrade for the steel greatsword triples Sun Sword stack consumption but also triples damage. The Solis Mision upgrade for the sword and shield automatically throws Sun Swords while guarding. The Solis Eckley upgrade for the sword consumes up to 10 Sun Swords to gain a weapon damage buff.
According to a community build guide, the Flower Club (Tier 1 pole upgrade) pairs well with Sun Sword combos because its multi-hit attacks trigger Sun Sword effects rapidly. The build relies on the Cloud Iron Earring artifact to instantly recover Sun Swords.
Attribute Builds
Each weapon type has upgrades that specialize in fire, ice, or lightning damage. For example:
- Fire builds: Burnt Forged Sword, Flame Dagger, Helbanus, Rod of Embers, Flame Mine
- Ice builds: Chilled Sword, Frost Shard, Winter Blacksmith's Study, Baeksang's Pole, Frost Shroud
- Lightning builds: Lightning Greatsword, Lightning Dagger, Conductor, Lightning Bronte, Thunderbolt's Baton
Companion Builds
Some upgrades are designed for companion-focused playstyles. These include the Ballista Sword, Rajaron (summons an Amethyst companion), Darkness (Dominance buff for allies), and Form of Karim (enhances jellyfish-type companions).
Magic Builds
Several upgrades convert weapons to support magic-based playstyles. The Magic Wand upgrade changes sword-and-shield attacks to magic missiles. The Waiting Cheonghwi Sword increases magic book damage. The Spirit Fusion Rod Ilonika changes normal attacks to cast bolt magic.
