Sephiria Second Boss: Lataka & Lerid Guide

Learn how to beat the Sephiria second boss Lataka and unlock Shadow Sword Lerid. Stats, patterns, strategies, and rewards for Stage 2 Grassland.

Overview

The Sephiria second boss refers to the end-of-stage boss encounter in Stage 2, Grassland. This stage has two possible bosses: the Marauder Leader 'Lataka', who appears from Chapter 1, and the Shadow Sword 'Lerid', an optional variant introduced in Chapter 2 that replaces Lataka with a certain probability.

Both bosses share the same base stats for their stage: Defense 18, which reduces incoming damage by approximately 16.53%. If you activate two pieces of protective armor, defense increases to 22, reducing damage taken by roughly 19.5%.

Defeating the Sephiria second boss always drops sapphires, provides artifact rewards and slate rewards, and grants additional dice depending on your fate imprint status.

How to Obtain

Encountering Lataka

Lataka is the standard second boss. You face her at the boss battle node at the end of Stage 2, Grassland. She appears from Chapter 1 onward and serves as the regular boss for this stage.

Unlocking Lerid

Lerid is a variant boss added in Chapter 2. When you reach the Stage 2 boss node, there is a probability that Lerid appears instead of Lataka. This is not a separate unlock — it is a random replacement that becomes available once you progress to Chapter 2.

Based on the story context, Lerid appears to be an assassin commissioned by Ascard to eliminate the protagonist. Lerid is the same character as the Black Panther Assassin mini-boss found elsewhere in Stage 2, but with a more difficult pattern set.

Uses

Lataka Strategy

Lataka is widely considered a nightmare for melee weapons. Her attack patterns are dense and fast, making parry/dash evasion unreliable. Key patterns include:

PatternDescriptionCounter
Concentric barrageSpreads rings of bullets centered on herselfStep back; do not attempt to parry through
Rock dropDrops rocks in a line between her and the player; shockwaves spread sidewaysBreak in during this window to deal damage
Counterclockwise spraySprays bullets in a rotating arcMaintain distance
Aimed fanFires a fan of bullets toward the player's positionKeep moving; avoid standing still
Mob summonSummons minor enemiesLow threat; ignore adds

Recommended approach: If you use a ranged weapon or magic book, Lataka is significantly easier. She barely moves and has no invincibility phases, so she absorbs all non-targeted skills. For melee builds, wait for the rock-drop pattern to close distance and secure damage windows.

Lerid Strategy

Lerid is a faster, more aggressive version of the Black Panther Assassin mini-boss. Her patterns change quickly and chain together, so pattern familiarity is essential. Players new to the genre may find her overwhelming. In hard mode, where a single mistake can drain your stamina, Lerid is especially dangerous for characters with low base HP or limited dash charges.

Version Context

  • Chapter 1: Lataka is the only Stage 2 boss.
  • Chapter 2: Lerid is added as a random replacement for Lataka.
  • Battle Stance option: If activated, all boss gimmicks and attack patterns are strengthened, including the Stage 2 bosses.
  • Defense scaling: All monsters in Stage 2 share the same defense value (18). This is not unique to the boss.
