Sephiria Erma Guide: Mad Scientist Boss and Attack Notes

Learn what to expect from Sephiria Erma, the Mad Scientist boss, including the golem encounter, laser timing, status effects, and version-sensitive route notes.

Who Is Erma in Sephiria?

Erma, also called the Mad Scientist, is the Library boss encounter. She pilots a large golem, and the fight is listed in the broader Sephiria bosses database as a three-phase encounter.

The public achievement list identifies the Mad Scientist defeat with This Is Not Stalking. The encounter has also received balance and bug fixes, so older videos can show different timing or hit detection.

Erma Boss Mechanics

The golem's head and hands use separate hit areas while sharing the encounter's overall health progression. Wide attacks can be valuable when more than one part is exposed, but staying close for extra hits is risky when the next pattern overlaps.

The main patterns to prepare for are:

  • Missile pressure: keep moving rather than waiting for the last projectile before choosing a lane.
  • Fist and bullet patterns: leave a movement route before committing to a long attack animation.
  • Laser patterns: the two-handed laser sequence is the most important timing check. Dash through a safe opening only after the overlap is visible.

Freezing or burning can be useful when your build supports status effects. A previous boss reference reports that freezing one part can affect the other parts and that burns have an unusually strong multiplier; verify the current tooltip and patch before treating those values as permanent.

Erma Preparation Checklist

  1. Bring reliable single-target damage for the exposed scientist phase.
  2. Keep at least one dash or movement option available for the laser sequence.
  3. Do not spend every defensive cooldown on the first golem pattern.
  4. If using status effects, test whether the current build applies them consistently before the boss room.
  5. In co-op, call the laser direction and avoid crossing through another player's escape lane.

Version Notes

Erma's laser cycle, golem health behavior, and combat detection have all appeared in official or SteamDB update records. The exact timing in an older guide may therefore be wrong for the current build. Check the Sephiria patch notes before comparing a run with an old video.

Some community route discussions mention a secret-room route after the Erma encounter. Treat that as version-sensitive exploration information, not a guaranteed reward or spawn rule; use the Sephiria secrets guide for the current route notes.
